Hailing from the cultural heart of the Bay Area, Spank Pops is a premiere emcee & songwriter whose deeply bred roots in the renowned Haight/Ashbury district of San Francisco blaze through in every musical work he puts forth, be it his reputable freestyles or ingenious lyrical works set to stone in the studio. Born & raised in the Western Addition, Spank was exposed throughout his upbringing to the prime of every musical genre - the best of the best - & has mastered his aptitude as a respected lyricist in the underground hip hop scene of San Francisco, with individuality that shines through on every joint he blesses.

Spanks & producer Doctor J met on their mutual Haight Street stomping grounds in 1998, Spank at the time holding down a 9 to 5 at the then newly formed hip hop clothing store TRUE, and J a young hip hop head with a passion for DJing and beats. Some time afterwards, J relocated to L.A. to pursue music and engineering, while Spank went on to cultivate his rap career. Also managing various TRUE stores in the Bay & opening a new location several years later in 2006, Spank coincidentally relinked with J on a musical level. With a fresh selection of J’s beats in hand, the two collaborated to create exciting new joints with an original San Francisco vibe, an optimum blend of catchy lyrics over crisp MPC showpieces.

‘Beautiful Noise’ is a pure, no nonsense project infusing Doctor J’s undeniable proficiency on the MPC with Spank’s always cadent & energetic lyricism. The title track throws the listener into a sound zone, while the inspirational wake-up feel of ‘New Day’ or the off beat banger ‘Why I Do This’ keep the EP consistently fun throughout, and proves this work to be a dulcet diamond in the rough. What very well may be the missing piece from the Bay Area’s current hip hop milieu, ‘Beautiful Noise’ is the fresh, authentic boom bap slap that put San Francisco on the artistic map in the first place.
